Relationships are all about the future. When you’re younger and you start a relationship, it feels as though anything can happen. You can have kids. You can buy a house. You can rob banks Bonnie and Clyde style before going out in a blaze of glory. The future feels like an unknown and limitless entity – something with an endless amount of potential and excitement.

But when you get older, the idea of “the future” tends to lose that excitement. You’ve already experienced a great life, and now you’ve grown into your routines and are less looking into the future, and are focused more on the here and now. It is for that reason that many older adults have given up on dating, seeing it only as an activity for the young.

There is No Wrong Time to Start Dating Again

You don’t need to be in the prime of your youth to look for love. There are so many reasons why finding love can happen at any time, and no matter your age you should continue to search for someone special in your life.

  • Someone Else is Looking

There is someone out there also looking for love, and that person may be the perfect partner to spend the rest of your life with. They have not given up, and if you decide not to seek out love because you’re concerned about your age, consider what you might be missing.

  • You Still Have Many Years Left

It doesn’t matter how old you are. What matters is that you still have a lot of time left. That time is more enjoyable when you have someone to share it with – someone whose company fills you with joy. Loving someone and spending time with them makes life more enjoyable, whether scaling mountain sides or making dinner together and watching a movie.

  • Happy Couples Live Longer

Finding someone to love is great for your health! Research has shown that those in happy relationships may add years to their lifespans. If you are concerned about dating at your age, remember that finding someone to love may keep you feeling younger for longer.

  • You Can’t Live in Your Past

It doesn’t matter if you’ve loved before. What matters is that you can love again. Those living in the past never have the opportunity to enjoy the future, and although you may have loved before – you may even have experienced heartbreak – your happiness doesn’t end just because you lost that love.

  • There’s No Age Limit On Happiness

If finding love makes you happy, then you deserve to find love. It doesn’t matter if you are 14 and just starting high school or long past retirement – your goal in life should always be to be happy, and dating is the first step towards that goal.

There’s No Time like the Present

If you’ve given up on love and find more joy being alone and cranky, then you may in fact be too old for love. But if you want to find someone special again – if you want to experience the happiness of being in a relationship – then there is no such thing as an age limit.
