Matchmaking Services
Dating may seem tough at times because we have a habit of going on dates with people with whom we have little or nothing in common. You may differ politically, have completely different interests, prefer a different type of humor – it’s not important what causes you to be incompatible. What matters is that you were not meant to be together, and the dates were unsuccessful.
Matchmaking services (both online and offline) are designed to reduce the number of “bad dates” and match you up with someone who pushes all the right buttons. These services, especially those online, have a great deal of potential as a way to help you meet someone special.
Benefits of Matchmaking Services
- Avoiding Incompatibility
It’s not necessarily a matter of finding compatible matches. People are all unique, and even if you match 100% on paper, you may not be a perfect fit in real life. What this does is help you avoid those that clearly don’t match what you’re looking for. For example, if you’re seeking a vegetarian and you refuse to date meat eaters, it wouldn’t be very helpful if the website you signed up for sent you a bunch of meat eating matches. Matchmaking services look for ways to make sure that you are at least compatible on paper, if not more so.
- Limiting Matches
Allowing thousands of people to contact thousands of other people with no discernible criteria is a recipe for disaster. You might receive emails from matches to whom you have no interest in talking. You might sift through hundreds of potential singles to find the one or two you want to contact. If the matchmaking service does some (or all) of this hard work in advance, the process is significantly easier.
- Something to Talk About
When you’re matched with someone based on pre-determined criteria, you automatically have discussion topics for the first date. You’ll go into the date knowing that there is a reason you were matched together. If absolutely nothing else, you can investigate what brought you together and likely start a lively conversation in the process.
- Comfort
There is something comforting about predetermined criteria. You know the person you’re going to meet or talk to has met the basic requirements you’ve laid out for a potential mate. You’re communicating with someone that, at least on paper, you are compatible with. That should allow you to relax and be yourself.
Are Matchmaking Services Perfect?
Matchmaking services evolve constantly. There’s no way to perfectly match the complexities of the average person with someone else. Expect to need a few dates before you find someone perfect, and don’t assume that just because you’re matched by the website or service you’ve hired that you’re a perfect fit. Even two people with identical interests may not get along.
While match making services are not 100% accurate, they offer a tremendous number of tools to meet someone special. These websites look at many criteria to find someone that seems to match with you. And, as these websites continue to evolve, their ability to match you with the perfect person only improves.
